dinosaurs live!

I really like Dinosaurs. I’m not entirely sure how it started but I don’t think it was until my freshman year of college that they began to fascinate me. I remember two things: Asking Jordan where dinosaurs fit into God’s plan and he suggested maybe they existed so we could have gasoline, and later being absolutely incensed that the T-Rex named Sue at the museum in Idaho Falls was plaster of Paris. I wore a shirt to soccer games that said Screw Sue on it to show my disapproval of her existence. Since that time I’ve had a couple of adventures seeing real dinosaur bones, most of the time with Cassi, but most recently with Jon and Heidi.

On Wednesday I got to go see Dinosaurs Live at Madison Square Garden with some people from work. It was a super fun show where humongous animatronic and costumed dinosaurs stomp around eating and fighting while a paleontologist talks about the various evolutionary periods the 17 dinosaurs in the show existed in. Obviously it’s geared toward kids, but when you stop thinking about the wires and the lighting, it all seemed pretty real and terrifying. The best one was Ornithocherius – like a Teradachtyl . I mean you could see the wires but I swear it looked like he was flying over the ocean. The best part though with when the Big Tyrannosaurus Rex came out to defend her baby from the Ankylosaurus because when he started to roar, a kid in front of us started freaking out and his parents had to take him out to calm him down.

Tbe show works well becasue the paleontologist doesn't talk a whole lot. With the music and sound effects going, you can really let your mind go and get lost in it all. Seriously!

Here are some pictures, but you’ll have to take my word for how cool it was since most of these look like water color sketches…
