jon

This weekend Jon solved a Rubik’s Cube.

He also had his appendix removed Monday night and as he was stuck at home for the rest of the week has so far finished a non-work related book for the first time in two years, Freakonomics, and started a second, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

Details on appendectomy:

He woke up with stomach pain early Monday morning and spent from 1-7am alternately dozing, puking, and having cold sweats. In the morning he said we should go to the hospital, so we went first to the clinic at Duane Reade then to the Emergency room at St. Lukes Roosevelt. There they did a CAT scan to make sure it was really appendicitis, the fourth case of the day the doctors told us, so it was out by eight that evening.

There was were no rooms and he was going to have to sleep in the Recovery room with like 10+ other people snoring, coughing, talking etc, so we sprung for a private room with a view of midtown and the river and I got to stay the night in my own little bad as well. After he successfully digested liquids and solids, they let us go home at 6 on Tuesday evening. We watched Animal Planet and got excited when something little was eaten by something bigger.

He’s spent the past few days sleeping, reading, and calling me at work to tell me what he’s eaten and what hurts. :o) He should be able to go into work on Monday, drug free.

It's been a long week but we have great friends who have brought us food, gave Jon a blessing and have called regularly to see how we’re doing. I’ve been remiss in returning all the calls, but it’s so nice to know we’re cared about and loved.

Cute blog background! I am glad to hear that Jon is getting some time off, in a round about way. It's funny how we get forced time off that sometimes is nice. (like reading a book for fun) Hope Jon's recovery keeps going well!
